prospective (nervous) student

Hi, I'm applying for Regular Decision to CAS; my planned major is Middle Eastern Studies with a minor in Persian. However, I'm rather nervous...my SAT is a 1900 (out of 2400), and my (unweighted) GPA is a 3.8. Does NYU seem to care more about GPA/SAT compared to essays, extracurricular activities and recs?

My essays are pretty good and I'm sure my teacher gave me the best rec in the world (most of her family attended NYU). And my extracurriculars are great; I have over 400 hrs of community service (including 115 hours at a cancer research lab/hospital). I'm secretary of the Poli Sci club and secretary of an honor society, and a member of Key Club. I'm also the graphics editor of an award winning high school newspaper and have won several awards for my art and front page designs. I'm also iranian and can speak/write the language, and I'm from a small town in FL. My dad attended CUNY, if that counts for anything.

I'm so worried :( And could anyone inform me further about the middle eastern major at NYU? Thank you so much, and I hope this is allowed.

Basically it's an discussion board where you can post anything you want anonymously. The one at JHU was extremely popular and they have recently added a long list of other schools. I think it's pretty neat, worth checking out.

Admission Question - Stats

As far as admission, could a 35 on the ACT make up for the fact that my GPA has gone down to a 3.5 after missing almost two-thirds of my junior year due to illness?

Is there calculus on the Quantitative Reasoning Exam? If so, how much? I did well on calc, but I took the course in month two years ago, so 'rusty' doesn't even begin to cover it.

Early Decision applicant.

I applied to the psychology dept. in CAS Early Decision for my freshman year starting fall '08 (so excited!).
Just wondering, if any of you got in early decision, when did you receive your admissions decision?
It says December to early January, but I am really anxious to find out before Christmas...
So, is it common to receive your admissions decision mid-December, or should I count on biting my nails until January?

Much obliged.

Mac OS Install CD

Hi guys, so someone, very kindly, offered to help, but (and I hope this is useful to anyone else who might have this problem) apparently, you can't use a macbook install cd on an ibook... If anyone out there has an ibook and still has the install CDs, I would be forever grateful if you could be as kind as the other person who offered and let me borrow those cds for an hour or so. Ok, thanks a lot, guys.
-----------
I was wondering if someone could help me with this. Does anyone out there still have their Panther/Tiger/any mac OS install CDs? My ibook G4 (that runs Panther) just broke down and after going to the Genius Bar at the Apple Store, I found out that I would need to reinstall all the software that came with the computer, using those CDs. Other than that, my computer will be braindead. I tried looking for copies online, but I can't find anything under $50, which is what it would cost for me to go back to the Apple Store and have them do it for me. I also e-mailed ITS to see if they have a spare startup CD, but doubt they can help with that. So if anyone out there would be so kind as to let me borrow their mac OS install CD for an hour or so, I'd really appreciate it. My computer is completely useless without it (it won't go past a certain gray screen). I'd get the CD (s) from you in whichever way would be easiest for you and I could bake you cookies, make some phonecalls, buy you a burrito or something like that in exchange for your kindness! Thanks for anything, guys...!

I also posted this on 2008 and NYU.

transfer?

ok, so I got into Fordham for the fall, but I really want to transfer to NYU. here's my question:::

Should I try to transfer for the second semester, wait until sophomore year, or is it best to just wait until junior year to transfer since some of my HS grades weren't that strong?

and does going to a college like fordham make my chances of being able to transfer to NYU better or worse?

thanks,
Megan

Checking In and Orientation

Checking In:
Do move-ins have to occur on the designated move-in day (August 26, this year) or can it happen anytime between then and the first day of fall semester or anytime after move-in day even?

Orientation:
How long does orientation last each day--the two-day one from August 27 to 28 if the specificity makes any difference? Supposing my parent decides to spend a few days with me following move-in day I'd like to make sure orientation isn't going to take up a huge chunk of my day.

Thanks, everyone.
